Modernizing Macrame with Large Hole Beads

1970 called, they want their plant hanger back

I know exactly what I was thinking when I started this project - a spiral macrame band for big holed beads would be perfect.  It will hold the beads in place, it can still be interchangeable, and it will be casually cool. Win, win, win.

And it is all that.  But making it, was a little more involved than I anticipated.  Lucky for you, I worked it all out.

There are two parts to this story - there's the tool and the design.  I tried a store bought tool and it still wasn't all that.  So I made my own, and you can too.

Here is the DIY knotting frame that I came up with. Quite frankly, I love it.  I made this bracelet at least twice as quickly as I could using another tool.  This and the knotting were the easy parts.

Figuring out how to finish the bracelet was more of a challenge.  But I did it and I'm actually thrilled with that part too.  The bummer - I made it a little too small.  Remember that you need to leave room for the large hole beads!!

And it truly is interchangeable.  Use this free tutorial to make this Spiral Macrame Bracelet for Pandora Euro Style beads to make your own.  Let me know if it was easy enough to follow or you can ask questions here.

  1. Thank you for posting this! I just got a bunch of big hole beads and LOVE this idea. I was thinking of doing Kumihimo, but I love the look of the twist.
