Herringbone Earrings That Don't Dangle (Pooks)

Normally, when I think of earrings that don't dangle, I think of post earrings.  But what I was trying to create are earrings that don't hang far off the ear like a normal french hook does.  The problem that I hear from some of my friends is that they say their earring holes look like they are stretched out when they wear earrings that dangle - even when the earrings are fairly light.  I guess just the motion puts pressure on the lobe and makes it look like the hole is stretched out a bit.  If you are younger than 40, just realize that this is a problem that comes with age. : )

I was also trying to make some subtle modifications to the herringbone drop that I posted a tutorial to earlier in the week.  Specifically, I wanted

the herringbone weave to frame the bead like a woven bezel and to have it be integrated into the ear wire.  I am close to achieving what I was hoping, but I don't like that the accent bead (the lapis or carnelian in my photos) is not wrapped.  They look fine on, but I think the will look much more 'finished' if I add a wrap to the top bead too.  This may also help cover the earring hole entirely, like a post earring would.

What should these earrings that are a combination of post and hook be called?  Pooks?

Love your Pooks, too. I like the plain bead at the top, but I also seem to want to wrap everything. I am just a hobbyist, and I don't practice enough, but I love doing it, so I usually end up wearing what I make even when they are flawed. Love your discipline.

  4. Thank you for your comments on my 'Pooks'. I have come up with another design that I think is going to really take them to the next level. I hope I have time this weekend to play! I will try to post instructions but I don't think I have the discipline to make a 'real' tutorial yet.
